Anaesthesiology and intensive care students appointment for 3rd year medical students, faculty of medicine, was started in 2002 This is held for one month duration. Two to three student groups are rotated from place to place, 3 days per place covering Intensive Care Unit, theatre, patient care unit and Emergency treatment unit of Kandy and Peradeniya teaching hospitals. A comprehensive student log book is provided to ensure they undergo thorough training on clear objectives of both critical care & anaesthesiology. Each group is exposed to formal teaching course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Finally an highly focused OSPE evaluation on what they should have learnt. The result of evaluation show a healthy growth of knowledge about critical care and anaesthesiology due to the appointment |
