Medical Unit Professorial (clinical) Unit of the Department of Medicine is located in the Teaching Hospital Peradeniya which is the Teaching Hospital affiliated to the Faculty. The Unit runs two wards (male and female) with a bed strength of 58 each. These include 3 beds with facilities for management of high dependency patients and 1 reserved for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. These two wards cater to medical patients with acute as well as chronic health problems. The majority of the admissions to the Unit are from the Preliminary Care Unit (PCU) which is located in the outpatients section of the hospital. Medical patients coming to the PCU are managed by the junior staff of the Unit under the supervision of the senior academic staff of the Department. The hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has 10 beds. The Department has direct access to the ICU for the management of critically ill patients. The senior academic staff also provide coverage to all medical problems in the ICU. |

| Electroencephalography (EEG) The Department had provided EEG services to the Teaching Hospital and to the Province since 1977. Over the years the Unit has expanded and now it has 2 EEG technicians and facilities for digital EEG. |

Neurology Unit The Neurology Unit with approximately 30 beds admits patients with acute as well as chronic neurological disorders for investigation and treatment. |
Clinical Neurophysiology The Department has provided the Clinical Neurophysiology services since 1977. Initially the investigations were confined to electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies. During the past several years the Department of Medicine in collaboration with the Department of Physiology has expanded the service to include Evoked Potential Studies (VEP, BAEP, SEP) and magnetic stimulation studies. |

Neurology clinic This clinic, initially commissioned in 1977 at the Teaching Hospital Kandy, and later transferred to the Teaching Hospital Peradeniya, caters to a large number of out-patients with neurological disorders. This is conducted on every Thursdays of the week (8.00 a.m. to 12.00 Noon) |
Bronchoscopy service Provides fibre-optic bronchoscopy service to the patients of the Central Province |
