"To provide sustainable human resource development in the health professions education sector both nationally and in the South Asian Region"

Medical Education Unit (MEU) was established in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya in 1973. From its inception MEU conducts training workshops on “Health Professions Education”. MEU was recognized by the World Health Organization as one of the Regional Teacher Training Centres in the South East Asia Region.

The two weeks Educational Technology workshop conducted by the MEU became very popular among the teachers of health professional schools in Sri Lanka and in the region. The duration of this course has been modified, from 02 weeks to 03 weeks, with effect from September 2006, including the topic areas such as University System, Ethics & Professionalism and Research Methods. These changes were effected to meet the requirements of the University Grants Commission. This course has been made compulsory for Medical, Dental and Veterinary probationary teachers to obtain the confirmation in the university service.

Medical Education Unit collaborates closely with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization sharing expertise related to training activities. Medical Education Unit carries out its activities with the assistance of a working group. These committed members are drawn from the faculty
