Pharmacology
is a medical science, which builds on the concepts of basic medical
science and underpins treatment in any medical discipline. It encompasses
basic clinical and experimental pharmacology as well as therapeutics. The
undergraduate program essentially consists of basic and clinical
pharmacology.
By the
end of the course students are expected to have inculcated a rational and
scientific basis for the use of drugs, and acquired the confidence to
discuss the use of drugs in different clinical situations. Students are
also expected to have developed self-learning abilities and a critical and
evaluative approach to the literature on pharmacology and drug-information
and an inquiring mind in relation to current trends in pharmacology, and
an appreciation of research methodology in pharmacology and an ability to
make public presentations.

As
graduates who have followed the course are expected to practice evidence
based medicine rationally within the available resources and sophisticated
enough to use new drugs optimally for the benefit of the
patients
