City of Kandy

University of Peradeniya dwells in the borders of the precinct of Kandy, which is an ancient city with a myriad of cultural and traditional remains, natural beauty and amiable surrounding, exemplifying a paradise and therefore being a major tourist attraction. Being the capital of the hill country of Sri Lanka, Kandy is known as “Mahanuwara” in Singhalese, the main indigenous language of the country, meaning ‘the’ prodigious city.
The temperature in Kandy ranges from 18 – 28 centigrade, with the sky being cloudy in most of the months. The alpine surrounding covered with foliage throughout the year forms a serene environment with the breeze coming across the mountain range “Hantana”.
