Prof MD Lamawansa MBBS, MS (Sri Lanka), FRCS (Edin), PhD (UWA, Australia) is a graduate of University of Ruhuna. After seven years of service and training in the Ministry of Health, he joined the Department of Surgery, University of Peradeniya in 1991. He has had further training in surgery in University of Western Australia and Royal Free Hospital, London. He is a General Surgeon with a special interest and training in limb re-implantation and kidney transplantation. He has served many committees of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, Postgraduate Institute of Medicine and College of Surgeons. He is an examiner for the PGIM, MRCS of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. He is currently the Secretary General of the SAARC Surgical Care Society
