 Department of Psychiatry holds the oldest Journal Club in the country, that continued from the very inception of the department. This is attended by Consultant Psychiatrists, Senior Registrars, Medical Officers of not only Peradeniya and Kandy, but the nearby suburbs of Kandy. The Senior Registrars do the organizing of the club. The registrars in training present a relevant journal article selected by a consultant and a case of a patient. Every month we invite one guest speaker, who talks about a topic outside psychiatry. Some people who graced the occasion are veteran artist Jackson Anthony. The journal club is preceded by buffet lunch, usually. This is well attended and is considered as CME activity and is also a well-used opportunity to meet and discuss any arising issue in mental health field of central province in a semi-official and friendly manner. |
