TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Undergraduate:FACULTY OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF PERADENIYA, SRI LANKA

  • In my current position in the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, I conduct lectures in statistics, epidemiology, research methodology, health economics, injury prevention and nutrition for medical undergraduates.  I designed and developed the undergraduate teaching program in statistics and have been teaching and conducting the evaluation in statistics, since 1996.  This is a component of the 3rd MBBS (part II) examination.
  • I also developed the teaching programs in nutrition, health economics and injury prevention and teach and conduct the evaluations in these subject areas.
  • I supervise physiology research projects of the 1st and 2nd year medical students and the pharmacology research projects of the 3rd year medical students.
  • I was a member in the ‘Y’ Committee (Planning and Implementation Board) and am a member in the Communication, Learning and Research (CLR) Stream Committee and the Doctor in Society (DIS) Stream Committee (Modular committees of the “Beyond 2004” curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya). I am also a member in the ‘Z’ Committee (Examination and Evaluation Board) of the “Beyond 2004” curriculum.  In these functions I was actively involved in the curriculum revision that took place in the Faculty of Medicine.
  • I am a supervisor for the research projects of the medical undergraduates in the CLR Stream of the new curriculum.
  • I was appointed as the Module Coordinator of the Locomotion Module for the Year 3 from April 2010.
  • I was appointed as the Coordinator of the Communication, Learning and Research (CLR) component of the Year 1 Semester 2 from March 2011.

Undergraduate:OUTSIDE THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE, IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PERADENIYA, SRI LANKA

  • I was appointed as a Visiting Lecturer in “Statistics” in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 2007 and conducted lecturers in Basic Statistics for the first batch of undergraduate students.
  • I conduct lectures in “Health Economics” for Sociology students in the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
  • I conduct lectures on “Environment and Health”, for students in the Centre for Environmental Studies, Department of Geography, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
  • I was appointed as a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in 2010 and conducted lectures in “Society and Medicine” for B. Pharmacy Program the undergraduate students.
  • I was appointed as a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Community Dental Health, Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and conducted lectures in “Statistics” for the undergraduate Dental students in 2010 – 2011.
  • I was appointed as a part-time Lecturer in Statistics in the Department of Building Economics, Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, in 2002.  I conducted lectures in “Statistics” and evaluated the students of 1st and 2nd year Bachelor of Science (Quantity Surveying) degree program during this appointment.
  • I conducted lectures in Statistics for the “Public Health Inspector Training Program 2005”, and the “Public Health Inspector Training Program 2009”conducted at the Regional Training Centre, Kadugannawa, Sri Lanka by the Ministry of Health.
  • I was appointed as a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Primary Health Care, Faculty of Health - Care Sciences, Eastern University, Sri Lanka in 2010 to conduct lectures in “Statistics” for the undergraduate Medical students.
