The discoid contusions of the neck and the cresentic abrasions are caused by the fingers of an assailant suggesting manual strangulation.

The vertical linear abrasions may be caused by the finger nails of the victim himself in an attempt to relieve the pressure over the neck.

The presence of numerous vertical linear abrasions suggest manual strangulation from behind where the victim is unable to reach the arms of the assailant and therefore attempts to relieve the grip by prying open his hands.
