50th Anniversary celebration of the Medical Education Unit / DME, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya

An event was held on the 16th of May 2023 to celebrate 50 years of contributions to medical education at the faculty of Medicine University of Peradeniya premises.
There was a tree planting ceremony near the examination hall and a formal meeting held in the Board room.
Professor Janet Grant, (Honorary Professor University College London, Director centre for medical education in context) delivered the guest talk on Continuing Professional Development- Managing life long learning.
The event was organized by the Head DME, Dean Medicine and the past directors of the MEU
The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor UoP, Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Terence Madhujith, Deans of Faculties of Health Sciences of the UoP, Prof. Vasanthi Pinto, Profs. Manjula Attygala and Anil Pushpakumara and Dr. Damayanthi Dissanayake, Acting Dean Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Past directors of the MEU, Dr. Palitha Abeykoon, Prof. P.T Jayawickramarajah, Dr. Nimal Kasturiarachchi and Prof. A.S. B. Wijekoon , Director PGIMS, Prof. Samath Dharmaratne and Director Academic Affairs UoP, Prof. Gamini Pushpakumara
Among the distinguished invitees present were the longstanding staff associates of the MEU- Prof. Malani Udupihille, Prof. Sarath Edirisinghe, Prof. Raja Bandaranayake Dr. Upali Sedere, Prof. Lakshman Karaliadde, Past Deans of the Faculty, Prof. Nimal Senanayake and Prof. Indragee Amarasinghe.
Medical Education colleagues - Prof Gominda Ponnamperuma, President, College of Medical Educationists, Profs Indika Karunatilake and Madhawa Chandrathilake and Dr. Ashwinie De Abrew.
The resource persons of MEU workshops, Prof. Oswin Perera, Dr. Nilmini Wanigasooriya, Profs. Vajira Weerasinghe, Deepthi Edussuriya, Vasanthi Pinto, Indu Nanayakkara and Rasnayake Mudiyanse , Prof. Chinthaka Balasuriya, Dr. Dujeepa Samarasekera, Dr. Sisira Dharmaratne , Dr. Wasana Jayaratne and MEU retired staff members Mr. J.C. Udurawana, Mr. U.S.K. Ekanayake graced the occasion.
Several of the MEU alumni joined online - Prof. Nilanthi De Silva (VC, University of Kelaniya), Prof. D.K. Srinivasa (Pondicherry India), Prof. Abraham Joseph (Vellore, India) and Dr. Ramesh Adhikari (Nepal).
Several well wishers, Mrs. T. Varagunam, Prof. Manel Wijesundere, Prof. Premalatha Balasuriya, and Dr. W.P Somasiri, as well as retired faculty staff present included Mrs Anoma Wickramaratchchi, Mrs Kusuma Munidasa.
Further the academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine, Medical students awaiting final year results, Non academic staff of the Department of Medical Education, Dean's office and Technical resource centre and e-library attended the event in person.
The event was compeered by Mr. Paveetha Abeykoon, Medical student of 2015/16 batch.
