Restart a Heart Day
The "World Restart a Heart" program is an annual event recurring in the month of October of each year since 2018 in many countries across the world. It has been a commendable programme aimed at raising awareness about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic life support techniques.
Hosted at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, this program was launched on October 4th 2023 and continued throughout the month, benefiting a diverse range of participants.
The program encompassed a multi-faceted approach, targeting university students, university staff, school children, and even extended to the broader community. This inclusivity was pivotal in equipping a wide demographic with life-saving skills.
University students and staff received hands-on CPR training, empowering them to respond effectively in emergency situations. School children were introduced to the importance of CPR, fostering a culture of safety from a young age.
The Teaching Hospital Peradeniya served as a pivotal hub for the program, offering a real-world setting for participants to practice their CPR skills under the guidance of medical professionals.
Furthermore, the collaboration with the Bar Association of Kandy underscores the program's commitment to spreading CPR knowledge far and wide, ensuring that legal professionals are equipped to respond to cardiac emergencies.
The "World Restart a Heart" program in Faculty of Medicine Peradeniya, 2023, was an exemplary model of community engagement, education, and preparedness, ultimately contributing to a safer and more informed society.
Indeed, the success of this public awareness program is another milestone achieved by the department of Anaesthesiology and Critical care in raising awareness and making a positive impact.
