Welcome Ceremony for the New Entrants of 2023/24 Batch to the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya
The welcome ceremony for the new entrants of the 2023/24 batch of the Faculty of Medicine took place on 06th of November 2024, at the Physiology Lecture Theatre. The event, held under the patronage of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Terrence Madhujith, marked the beginning of an important journey for the incoming students.
Dr. Palitha Mahipala, the Hon. Secretary of the Ministry of Health and an esteemed alumnus of the Faculty of Medicine, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. His inspiring address to the students emphasized the significance of their new academic chapter and the responsibilities they would bear in the future of healthcare.
The ceremony was attended by Professor Ranjith Pallegama, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, along with Deans of various faculties at the University of Peradeniya, and other key university officials. Prof. Saman Nanayakkara, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, delivered the welcome address, expressing his excitement for the new batch of students. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Terrence Madhujith, and Prof. Udaya Ralapanawa, the chairperson of the Student Affairs Committee, also addressed the gathering, further motivating the students for the path ahead.
The event was attended by 237 new undergraduate students from the 2023/24 batch, along with their parents, who were welcomed warmly by the university community. To celebrate the occasion, students of the Faculty of Medicine treated the guests to a vibrant and memorable cultural performance, showcasing the rich traditions of the institution.
