The Department of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, in collaboration with the Department of Medical Education, College of Medicine, University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), USA, conducted a three-day workshop on "Scholarship, Innovation and Integration of AI for Educational Research" from 6th to 8th October 2025.

This event was the second workshop in a continuing series under the UIC-UoP partnership, aimed at enhancing capacity building in health professions education and promoting collaborative educational research.

Four distinguished international resource persons conducted the sessions:

• Prof. Yoon Soo Park, PhD - Ilene Harris Professor and Head of the Department Medical Education
• Prof. Ara Tekian, PhD, MHPE - Professor and Associate Dean for International Affairs
• Prof. Lauren Maggio, PhD - Professor and Director of Research
• Dr. Brian Gin, MD, PhD - Associate Professor of Medical Education and Paediatrics

The workshop focused on integrating artificial intelligence into educational research, developing scholarly approaches to medical education, and fostering research collaborations between the two universities.

By conducting this workshop, the Faculty of Medicine marked another milestone in our partnership with the University of Illinois Chicago.
