The Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, extends its heartfelt appreciation to Professor Padma Badra Hewavithana, an outstanding academic, visionary leader, and compassionate clinician, on her retirement after more than three decades of distinguished service.

Professor Hewavithana obtained her MBBS and MD (Radiology) from the University of Colombo and pursued advanced training in Australia and India. She played a pioneering role in establishing and developing the Department of Radiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Peradeniya, and was instrumental in introducing the BSc Radiography and Radiotherapy programme at the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.

Her contributions extend beyond the university, having served as President of the Sri Lanka College of Radiologists, President of the Radiological Society of SAARC Countries, President of the Kandy Society of Medicine, and Chairperson of the Board of Studies in Radiology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine.

A dedicated teacher and mentor, Professor Hewavithana has guided generations of medical professionals and contributed extensively to research in radiology and medical imaging. Her leadership, humility, and dedication have left a lasting impact on the Faculty and the national medical community.

The Faculty of Medicine expresses its sincere gratitude for her invaluable service and wishes Professor Hewavithana good health, happiness, and fulfillment in the years ahead.
