Welcome Ceremony for the New Entrants of the 2024/25 Batch - Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya
The Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, hosted a grand Welcome Ceremony for the 2024/25 batch of new undergraduate students on 11th September 2025 at the Physiology Lecture Theatre. This significant event marked the beginning of a transformative academic journey for 238 aspiring medical students.
Held under the esteemed patronage of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ranjith Pallegama, the ceremony featured the presence of several distinguished guests and university dignitaries. The Chief Guest, Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health and a proud alumnus of the Faculty, delivered a powerful and inspiring keynote address. He highlighted the critical role future medical professionals would play in shaping the nation's healthcare landscape and urged students to embrace their responsibilities with integrity and passion.
The welcome address was delivered by Professor Saman Nanayakkara, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, who extended a heartfelt greeting to the new batch and their families. He expressed enthusiasm and hope for the promising journeys ahead. The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ranjith Pallegama, and Dr. Anura Abeysundara, Chairperson of the Student Affairs Committee, also addressed the gathering, offering words of encouragement and insight into life at the University.
