Virtual Pathology Museum Officially Launched by the Department of Pathology
The Department of Pathology officially launched its Virtual Pathology Museum on 6 July 2026 at a ceremony held at the Faculty Board Room.
The occasion was graced by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Saman Nanayakkara, together with Prof. Neelakanthi Ratnatunga and Prof. Channa Ratnatunga, as well as the academic and non-academic staff of the Department of Pathology and the Faculty of Medicine, and postgraduate trainees in Pathology.
The Virtual Pathology Museum features a curated collection of high-quality images of gross pathological specimens, organised according to organ systems, accompanied by brief clinical histories, pathological descriptions, and diagnoses. This innovative digital resource provides students, educators, and healthcare professionals with convenient access to pathology learning materials beyond the traditional physical museum setting.
The launch marks an important milestone in pathology education by creating an accessible, interactive, and sustainable learning platform that enables users to explore pathological specimens anytime and anywhere in the world.
The development of the Virtual Pathology Museum was made possible through the dedication and collaborative efforts of the academic and non-academic staff of the Department of Pathology. The Virtual Pathology Museum is available to registered users through the departmental webpage.
