The Higher Degrees Committee (HDC) of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, held its annual briefing session for supervisors and potential supervisors on 7 September 2026, with the participation of academic staff from the Faculty of Medicine and other faculties of the University of Peradeniya.

The programme commenced with a welcome address and an overview of the objectives of the session by Prof. Saman Nanayakkara, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairperson of the HDC. The workshop included two brief presentations by Prof. Keerthi Dissanayake of the Department of Anatomy and Prof. Damsara Nandadeva of the Department of Physiology. They spoke on the transition from being supervised to becoming a supervisor and on effective postgraduate supervision, respectively.

This was followed by an interactive case-based session in which participants engaged in group discussions and subsequently shared their views with the larger group. The session was moderated by Prof. Veranja Liyanapathirana, Secretary of the HDC.
