Welcome Ceremony and Student Registration for the New Entrants of the 2025/26 Batch - Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya

The Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, hosted a grand Welcome Ceremony for the 2025/26 batch of new undergraduate students on 15th September 2025 at the Physiology Lecture Theatre. This significant event marked the beginning of a transformative academic journey for 242 aspiring medical students.

Held under the esteemed patronage of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Terrence Madhujith, the ceremony featured the presence of several distinguished guests and university dignitaries. The Chief Guest, Prof. Jayantha Jayawardena, President, Sri Lanka Medical Council and a proud alumnus of the Faculty, delivered a powerful and inspiring keynote address. He highlighted the critical role future medical professionals would play in shaping the nation's healthcare landscape and urged the students to embrace their responsibilities with integrity and passion.

The welcome address was delivered by Professor Saman Nanayakkara, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, who extended a heartfelt greeting to the new batch and their families. He expressed enthusiasm and hope for the promising journeys ahead. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Terrence Madhujith, and Dr. Yasitha Illangasekera, Chairperson of the Student Affairs Committee, also addressed the gathering, offering words of encouragement and insight into life at the University.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Deans from other Faculties, academic staff, university officials, and non-academic staff, reflecting the interdisciplinary support extended to the new students. Parents of the new entrants were also warmly welcomed, reinforcing the Faculty's commitment to building a strong community of support around its students.

Adding a vibrant touch to the event, current students of the Faculty of Medicine showcased their talents through musical performances, celebrating the institution's rich cultural heritage and welcoming their juniors with warmth and enthusiasm.

The student registration process was also carried out smoothly through the dedicated teamwork and commitment of the non-academic staff of the Dean's Office, Technical Resource Centre and E.Library. Working together as a coordinated team, they provided guidance and assistance to the new entrants and their parents throughout the registration process, ensuring an organised, efficient, and welcoming start to the students' academic journey at the Faculty of Medicine.
