The inaugural Student Leadership Programme for the batch 2020/2021, organized by the Rag Prevention Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, was held successfully on the 21st of December, 2022, with the Batch 2020/21 as the first group of participants.
Chandika Kavinda Athukorala (M/16), Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, won first place in the poster competition organised by the Sri Lanka College of Microbiologists in collaboration with WHO In parallel to the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2022, among students from Faculties of Medicine, Dental Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.
The winner of the Human Rights debate 2022 was the University of Peradeniya. The team was sent from the faculty of Medicine, and the team were Mr. Sachith Keragala (Captain), Mr. Shakthi Senarathne, Mr. Malaka Samarasinghe, Mr. Melaka Jude, Ms. Thisari Walawege.
Inter-University Internal Medicine Quiz - 2022
The Inaugural Inter-Medical Faculty Internal Medicine Quiz was held on the 28th of September 2022 as a virtual event. It was organized by the Sri Lanka College of Internal Medicine (SLCIM).
Twelve state medical faculties from Sri Lanka contested, and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Peradeniya team emerged as champions winning the trophy. The winners were ceremonially awarded the trophy, certificates, and medals at the Sri Lanka Internal Medicine Conference (SIMCON 2022) on the 5th of November 2022 at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel.
Ms. Umangi Karunaratne, Mr. Isuru Manawaduge, Mr. Pasan Kumara, Mr. Paveetha Abeykoon and Mr. Lahiru Kularatne are the members of the winning team. The team was trained by Dr. Chathurika Dandeniya, Senior Lecturer in Medicine, Department of Medicine.

Workshop on Peer Observation
The Monitoring and Evaluation Committee of the Faculty of Medicine held a workshop on Peer Observation of Teaching/Learning activities on the 28th of October 2022. The workshop was attended by an enthusiastic group of academic staff members. The plan for introducing the third cycle of Peer Observation was discussed along with the introduction of peer observation of clinical teaching.
Workshop on Undergraduate Mentoring and Active Listening
A half day workshop on "Undergraduate Mentoring and Active Listening" was held at the Medical Education Department Auditorium, for the academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya on the18th October 2022. Altogether 21 participated in the workshop.
The workshop was opened by Prof Udaya Ralapanawa, Chairperson Student Affairs Committee who was standing in for the Dean. He stressed not only the importance of undergraduate mentoring but also the need to audit the effectiveness of the program.

Workshop on Student Centred Learning by Dr. Joachim Perera (Senior Visiting Consultant)
"Workshop On Problem Based Learning and Developing SBA and EMIs in Basic Sciences", a session on Student Centred Learning and Problem Based Learning, was held on 11th October 2022 at the Faculty Board Room, under the organisation by the Department of Medical Education.
The session was facilitated by Dr. Joachim Perera, a surgeon and a former academic staff member of the Department of Anatomy, University of Colombo and International Medical University Malaysia. Currently serving as a senior consultant to the Faculties of Medicine of Moratuwa and Sabaragamuwa, Dr. Joachim Perera holds a wealth of experience on implementing PBL in an Asian setting and also in constructing SBA and EMI in basic sciences. He had been a resource person of similar workshops to many institutes.
The session commenced at 9:00am, with an attendance of around fifty participants, comprised the Dean, Professors, Senior Lecturers, Consultants, Temporary Lecturers affiliated to the faculty, as well as academic staff members representing the Dental and Veterinary Faculties of the University of Peradeniya. The highly interactive nature of the session and the helpful feedback provided by the facilitator received a multitude of positive comments by the attendees, and the session was concluded at 4:00pm after the delivery of certificates to the participants.

The SLMC Accreditation Process 2022 - Site Visit
The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) review team visited the faculty on 31st August, 1st and 2nd September 2022.
The team comprised Professor Madawa Chandratilake (Team leader), of Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya Professor Ariyarani Gnanathasan Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo , Professors, Rasika Perera, Shamini Prathapan and Shyamalee Samaranayake, all of Faculty of Medical sciences, University of Sri Jayawardenapura.
They had meetings with academic staff, non-academic and administrative staff and students. Also observed teaching learning activities, student learning resources, recreation facilities and hostels.

The Inter-Medical Faculty Psychiatry debate was held on 15.12.2021 at the Grand Kandyan Hotel organized by the Sri Lankan College of Psychiatrists as part of the Annual Academic Sessions. University of Peradeniya were the Opposing team for the motion "Physician Assisted Suicide should be legalized in Sri Lanka" and became winners after a lengthy battle. The team members were Sachith Keragala, Shakthi Senarathne, Malaka Samarasinghe as speakers and Nadarasa Ganashiam, Tharani Kularathne and Vikum Dharmasena as reserves.
The Sri Lanka College of Radiologists (SLCR) hosted an Inter-faculty Radiology Quiz to commemorate the International Day of Radiology in November 2021. The Faculty of Medicine, the University of Peradeniya won the Quiz. I.S Kothalawala, S.L.P. Chathuranga, M.M.A.I. Premarathne, H. Narampanawa, Umangi Karunarathne, and A.M.A.P. Alahakoon were among the medical students who took part in the quiz.
Narration Competition - Sri Lanka Medical Association (S.L.M.A)
Narration competition for Medical Students Organized by Sri Lanka Medical Association (S.L.M.A) was held in October 2021. From the Contestants from all the faculties, two participants from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, Paveetha Abeykoon won first place and A.M.A.P Alahakoon managed to secured the third place.
Annual Niigata University - Peradeniya University Sister Link Programme
University of Niigata, Japan organize the Summer Exchange Programme for Students of the Faculty of Medicine University of Peradeniya annually. Mr. Paveetha Abeykoon and Mr. Isuru Kothalawala from 2015/16 Batch represented the Faculty of Medicine in year 2020.
