HONORARY VISITING PROFESSOR - PROFESSOR MICHAEL WILKES

M.D., Ph.D. has just stepped down as Vice Dean of Medical Education to enable him to pursue development of Global Health Sciences Education. He is both a internationally recognized teacher and curriculum consultant and also an advisor / Committee Chair to the US NBME (National Board of Medical Examiners). He is currently, DIRECTOR OF GLOBAL HEALTH for the University of California, Davis. Wilkes has consulted with numerous countries (Nicaragua, South Africa, Republic of Georgia, UK and Australia) on issues related to curriculum development, student assessment, licensure issues, and interdisciplinary health education. With cultural sensitivity, and attention to specific in-country needs Dr. Wilkes has accomplished many of the same curriculum objectives he proposes for Sri Lanka. He is a regular, and sought after visiting professor at medical and nursing schools around the world. Wilkes is an award winning teacher and curriculum developer (local, regional, and national awards from such organizations as the American College of Physicians, American College of Preventive Medicine, American Association of Medical Colleges, UCLA, UC Davis and many more) and researcher. Wilkes is also the Director of IVIMEDS (www.ivimeds.org) which is a nonprofit international collaboration of leading medical schools whose goal is to establish a global common e-learning curricular tools that can be developed with shared resources and used around the world. Wilkes is a major federal researcher (NIH/CDC) involved in exploring uses of technology based education to enhance clinical practice. As one can see from his CV he has a wealth of experience in research in curriculum development and evaluation (more than 50 papers) and runs one of the longest running faculty development programs in the State for health sciences faculty.

Professor Jonathan Silverman  - March 2014

Professor Jonathan Silverman is the Associate Clinical Dean and Director of Communication Studies of the School of Clinical Medicine, University of Cambridge, UK, Chair, teaching unit of the European Association of Communication in Health Care and the President elect, European Association of Communication in Health Care. His qualifications includes BA Hons, BM,Bch, MRCGP, DRCOG,FRCGP and FAcadMEd . He has been awarded the 2007 University of Cambridge Pilkington Prize for Teaching Excellence. Professor Jonathan Silverman has authored five textbooks, published over 30 papers in indexed journals and authored over 50 conference papers. He was the founder and chair of the UK council of communication skills Teaching in Undergraduate Medical Education (2005 to 2012).

     
 

Professor Derick Pounder

Professor and Chair of Forensic Medicine at University of Dundee, UK and the Director of Centre for Forensic and Legal Medicine at University of Dundee.
He was appointed as a visiting Professor on honorarium basis in the department of Forensic Medicine of this University for a period of five (05) years from 01st July 2010.
