Honorary Clinical Services to the Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya
Apart from the academic services and research done by the department, the academic staff provide a dedicated honorary service as Consultant Radiologists at Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya, working on a 24/7 clinical on call roster to Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya and maintaining a good collaboration with other departments in the hospital.
Patient care
The following services are provided at Teaching Hospital Peradeniya:
Diagnostic services:
Plain Radiography, USS, CT, Mammography, Angiograms and Fluoroscopic contrast studies
Interventional services:
- Image-guided Biopsies
- Image guided aspirationsand drainage catheter insertions
- Angioplasty
- Endovenous Laser Ablation
- Sclerosant injections for varicose vein management
- Ultrasound guided MSK interventions
- CT- guided facet joint and nerve root injections
- Microwave ablation of breast, liver and thyroid lesions
Regular multidisciplinary team meetings which facilitate patient management and learning are conducted by the department, which include Surgery-Radiology, Surgery-radiology-pathology, Neuro-radiology, Paediatric-radiology and Orthopaedics-radiology meetings.
In addition to this the department provides radiological services to the Dental Hospital, Peradeniya
Research Activities
All academic staff members are actively involved in research. The department has a research laboratory with an ultrasound scanner available at the faculty.
Other Services
Ultrasound scanning, X-ray and CT reporting services for faculty staff and families at a subsidized minimal fee at the Faculty of Medicine.
