The University of Peradeniya and the Faculty of Medicine are committed to maintaining a learning environment and workplace in which the dignity and equality of all persons are respected and are free of harassment and violence, including sexual or gender-based harassment and sexual violence. To this end, the University aims to prevent the occurrence of harassment and violence; to implement prompt, effective, and fair mechanisms to provide for the inquiry and resolution of complaints; and to facilitate adequate and appropriate support for victims of harassment and violence.
The role of the SGBV committee is to create awareness among students and staff toward zero tolerance of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) within the University of Peradeniya. The faculty sub-committee works with the SGBV committee of the University of Peradeniya to create and enhance awareness about SGBV including gender identity, individual freedoms, and the available mechanisms against SGBV among the university community.
