Bacteriology 
Routine microbiological services to the Health Centre, University of Peradeniya and to nearby Base Hospitals without clinical microbiological laboratories, free of charge. Any form of culture including culture for TB is performed. The TB culture services are offered to Teaching Hospitals Peradeniya and Kandy as well. The same tests are available for any private sector patient as a paid for service.

Prof V Thevanesam is the Consultant Microbiologist to Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya and offers off site consultancy to hospitals such as Base Hospitals Nawalapitiya, Gampola and Nuwaraeliya. Lecturers from Department of Microbiology also contribute to the running of the Microbiology Laboratory, Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya at the capacity of registrar or medical officer depending on their qualifications.

Mycology 
Mycology services are also offered to any interested clinician in the nearby hospitals.

Serology 
SAT tests (Tube method) are offered to government sector hospitals free of charge and private sector for a charge. Rapid testing forHepatitis Bsurface antigen and testing for anti-Hepatitis B surface antibodies in vaccines are offered for cost recovery basis fee. Serological testing for Rickettsial diseases is offered as a part of a research project.

Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) testing
This facility is also offered to Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya and to any other institution which requests for it.

Short term Training for interested persons
We offer short term training programmes in Bacteriology and virology for interested persons. And applicants should contact the head of the department for further information.
