Doctor in Society (DIS)

Doctor in Society Stream is an important, integral and a compulsory stream / component in the new undergraduate medical curriculum at University of Peradeniya. This stream runs from 1st year to the 4th year.

Concepts of Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine are key components in this stream.
Hours for teaching-learning activities allocated for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th years are 30 hrs, 30 hrs, 90 hrs and 90 hrs respectively.

In addition the students follow a one month clinical appointment in Forensic Medicine and another one month appointment Community Medicine. Hours allocated for self learning in the time table may also be utilized when and where necessary for the fulfilment of certain objectives.

The concept map documented here has been approved by the Department of Community Medicine, by the Department of Forensic Medicine, DIS Committee, the Curriculum Coordinating Committee (CCC) and the Curriculum Development Committee and the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Medicine.
