ACTIVITIES 2020

  • New year 2020 celebration


  • Prof. Dinesh Fernando, Mr. Laxman Gunathilake, Ms. Mithila Wijerathne and Ms. Waruni Weerathunge participated at a workshop on Inventory and stores verification held on 02.01.2020 in the Faculty of Engineering.

  • Two case conferences were conducted by Dr. Amal Vadysinghe and Dr. Gayan Kumarasinghe with the participation of consultants, judicial medical officers, medical officers, police officers in charge, police inspectors, police officers, grama niladari, probation officers in charge, divisional secretaries, child protection officers, child rights promotion officers, counselling officers and social workers, on 09.01.2020 in the board room of the department


  • A cache of firearms were issued by the Police field force headquarters under the authorization of the ministry of defence for teaching, learning purposes.

  • Productions were received from high court, Kegalle for student teaching.

  • Mr. Laxman Gunathilake made a presentation on “Green University” concept for the non-academic staff of the department on 22.01.2020


  • A mock trial was conducted by the forensic clinical group-4 of 2014/15 Batch, on 28.01.2020 in the model court room of the Dept. of Forensic Medicine under supervision of Prof. Dinesh Fernando.
  •       

  • The MD (Forensic Medicine) trainees and clinical group-4 of 2014/15 batch visited a crime scene in Teldeniya.


  • A visit to High Court, Colombo by the forensic medicine clinical group-4 of 2014/15 Batch with Prof. Kodikara on 07.02.2020.
  •       

  • Farewell party for Dr. Ranjith Dissanayake, Dr. Gamini Dissanayake & Dr. Dhanushka Rambukwella was held in the department on 28.02.2020.


  • The department celebrated the achievement of Dr. Dhammika Madarasinghe (past MD trainee) who passed the DLM examination.


  • Shramadana was conducted by the Faculty of Medicine on 19 .05.2020.
  •              

  • A case conference co-ordinated by Dr. Sameera Gunasekara was held on 23.06.2020 in the Board room of the department with the participation of consultants, judicial medical officers, medical officers, police officers in charge, police inspectors, police officers, grama niladari, probation officers in charge, divisional secretaries, child protection officers, child rights promotion officers, counselling officers and social workers.


  • Lunch given by Prof. Amal Vadysinghe in appreciation of the support rendered to him by the department


  • A post-mortem specimen photography unit was gifted by Ms. Louise Goosens, Senior Medical Photographer, Capital & Coast District Health Board, Wellington Hospital, New Zealand, who visited the department on 06.08.2019. A demonstration was done.


  • Prof. Sarathchandra Kodikara completed his tenure as the Head on 30.07.2020. Prof. Deepthi Edussuriya assumed duties as the New Head of department.
  •       

  • A case conference was conducted by Dr. Saman Chandradasa with the participation of consultants, judicial medical officers, medical officers, police officers in charge, police inspectors, police officers, grama niladari, probation officers in charge, divisional secretaries, child protection officers, child rights promotion officers, counselling officers and social workers, on 16.07.2020 in the Board room of the department.


  • A Farewell for Dr. Uchitha De Silva, trainee in MD emergency medicine was held on 01.07.2020.


  • A group of undergraduate medical students following the Forensic Medicine clinical attachment visited High Court, Colombo on 8th September 2020.
  •       

  • Ms. Shehani Dilmika (NAITA trainee) successfully completed training on 25.09.2020.


  • Mr. Laxman Gunathilake attended a safety awareness programme at the Science Faculty on 18.09.2020.


  • The department organized a Staff day-out on 26.09.2020.

  • Dr. Kasun Ekanayaka, Dr. Sachinthani darshika and Dr. Isuruni Thilakarathne left the department on 19.10.2020 to take-up their internship.


  • Dr. Siddique joined the department as a trainee in Post MD Training Programme in Forensic Medicine for 6 months from 05.10.2020.
