Teaching Family Medicine to the undergraduates is a global and national requirement. Family Medicine module has been included in the undergraduate curriculum since year 2020 with the aim of providing students the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills of Family Medicine required to deliver a personalized and family centered first contact care for the patients in the community.

To facilitate and smooth functioning of the Family Medicine programme, the Department of Family Medicine was established in year 2022.

To provide first-hand clinical exposure the students are given the opportunity to visit the Government Primary Care Unit at Kadugannawa, Community General Practitioners, Out Patient Departments at Teaching Hospital Peradeniya, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Specialized Children’s Hospital, National Hospital Kandy, Emergency Training Unit at National Hospital Kandy during their clinical appointment.
