It conducts ‘Applied anatomy’ lectures highlighting the correlation between gross and radiological anatomy during the first and second years.
The department contributes to the Foundation and Doctor-in-Society modules during the third year of the academic programme.
The Medical Imaging module with comprehensive lectures covering a wide range of topics is conducted during the first and second semesters of the fourth year.
The students follow a two-week clinical appointment on medical imaging during the third year (Y3S2) and fourth years (Y4S1/Y4S2). This consists of one week each at the department of Medical Imaging at the National Hospital, Kandy and at the department of Radiology, Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya. The students are released for one day to the Nuclear Medicine Unit, Faculty of Medicine, during the appointment at the Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya. The students face an pre-test and post-test OSCE at the beginning and end of this clinical appointment.
The department offers facilities for student-centred learning through the film library (museum). The library contains a large collection of radiological learning material, both electronic and films to promote undergraduate and postgraduate learning.
