Academic Staff
Prof. Ranjiv Shenal Thalgahagoda, MBBS, DCH, MD (Paed), FRCPCH (UK), is Professor in Paediatric Nephrology and Head of the Department of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya. He is Director of the Centre for Education, Research and Training in Kidney Diseases (CERTKiD) and an accomplished clinician–scientist with research interests in nephrotic syndrome, tubular disorders, chronic kidney disease, and renal transplantation. Prof. Thalgahagoda has received multiple national and presidential research awards and serves on editorial boards of regional journals. He is widely recognized for his contributions to paediatric nephrology research, education, and postgraduate training in Sri Lanka.
Prof. A.S. Abeyagunawardana, MBBS, DCH, MD, MRCP (UK), FRCPCH (UK), is Senior Professor in Paediatrics (Cadre Chair) at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, and a nationally and internationally renowned paediatric nephrologist. A former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and President of the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians, he has made outstanding contributions to paediatric nephrology, education, research, and policy development. Prof. Abeyagunawardana has received multiple Presidential and international awards for research excellence and has served as a keynote speaker, guideline developer, and reviewer for leading journals. His work has significantly shaped paediatric renal care and postgraduate training in Sri Lanka and the region.
Prof. T. Kudagammana, MBBS, DCH, DAA, FRCPCH, FSLCPaed, is Senior Professor in Paediatrics (Cadre Chair) at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, and a nationally and internationally renowned paediatric nephrologist. Prof. A.H.H.M. Jayaweera, MBBS, MD, DCH, MRCPCH, FRCPCH (UK), FSLCPaed, is Professor in Paediatrics and former Head of the Department of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya. He plays a key role in postgraduate education and training as a Member of the Board of Study in Paediatrics at the PGIM and serves on the Council of the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians. An experienced editor and reviewer for leading national journals, his research interests span Growth & Nutrition, Gastroentrology and Nephrology. Prof. Jayaweera is actively engaged in faculty governance, quality assurance, and student affairs, contributing significantly to paediatric education, research, and academic leadership.
Prof. Pathum Vindana Dissanayake, MBBS, MD, DCH, is Professor in Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya. An experienced clinician–academic, his research interests include neonatology, endocrinology, and Down syndrome. He serves as a Senior Student Counsellor and contributes to national scholarship as a reviewer and editorial board member for medical journals. Prof. Dissanayake is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, advanced paediatric life-support training, and continuing medical education, and has received several national awards for research excellence and academic presentations. His work reflects a strong commitment to paediatric education, research, and service development in Sri Lanka.
Dr. M.G.D.V.K. Kiridana, MBBS, MD, DCH, MRCPCH (UK), is a Senior Lecturer in Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya. Her academic interests focus on paediatric growth, development, and childhood obesity, and she is currently reading for a PhD on modifiable risk factors for childhood obesity. She is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, faculty governance, ethics review, and national training programmes in advanced paediatric and neonatal life support.
Dr. S. Krishnapradeep, MD, DCH, MRCPCH, serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. His areas of clinical and academic interest include thalassaemia, paediatric gastroenterology, and paediatric life support. He also possesses recognised expertise in healthcare communication and medical education. Dr. Krishnapradeep has contributed extensively to national and international training initiatives, serving as a key resource person in paediatric life support and communication programmes. He is an Oxford International Paediatric Fellow at the John Radcliffe Hospital, United Kingdom. He obtained his postgraduate qualifications from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, and subsequently pursued advanced clinical training at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, United Kingdom.
Dr. Aanjeli Yvanthika Wimalasiri, MBBS (China), MD (Paediatrics, Sri Lanka), MRCPCH (UK), serves as a Lecturer in Paediatrics at the University of Peradeniya and a Consultant Paediatrician with a focus on clinical excellence, research, and medical education. A valedictorian of her graduating class (2012), she completed her MD in Paediatrics in Sri Lanka and subsequently obtained Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH, UK). She holds a Certificate of Training in Paediatric Gastroenterology following a Clinical Fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. Her principal interests include paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, nutritional disorders, and iron deficiency in chronic disease. Dr. Wimalasiri is actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching her academic passion also extend to communication in medicine and medical education.
